I love to knit up pretty multicolored fingering-weight yarns in simple, easy-to-do garter stitch: All the creative work the dyer has put into the skein will show! What I also love is a fun construction for a garter stitch shawl – and details that make it special. “Blauer Pfau” (means “blue peacock” in German) is a triangle with diamond-shaped cut-outs along the middle axis. And the cut-out pieces will magically (sort of) show up at one end of the shawl to add extra interest.
This pattern was first published exclusively in Strickmich! Club 2021. It looks great in the original Club Yarn Katahdin 437 by Miss Babs or other hand-dyed yarn. All you need is one skein.

I just love the “We’re Different”-Grab Bags from Rohrspatz & Wollmeise: Depending on which kind you choose, you will get a combination of a multicolor and a matching semisolid, hand-picked by the dyemaster herself, who has an unmatched sense of color. What shall I say? I was really surprised when I saw that she teamed up a softly variegated brown-grey with a bold and warm red. I just had to give it a try and get my knitting needles moving! So here’s “Match & Move”, a shawl designed to show off the perfect Wollmeise color combination and use up (almost!) an entire grab bag of yarn. My shawl weighs 286 grams. The unusual construction results in kinked stripes that look really interesting when you wear it. The knitting is plain garter stitch and very relaxing, and the shawl is so big and comfy, it is just a dream to wear. Definitely my favorite shawl so far – and I am determined to order another grab bag, be surprised and knit myself one more.

When we moved to the countryside a couple of years ago, we couldn’t believe how beautiful it is around here: Woods and lakes and scenery, freedom for your eyes, comfort for the soul. I especially enjoy afternoons at lake Stocksee when I just watch the ducks and grebes and the subtle changes in the water surface. “Stocksee Story” captures this mood: Made out of a great supersoft silk-merino blend by Manos del Uruguay, dyed to perfection in a colorway that resembles a blue water surface with reflections of the shrubs and trees at the shore, it will be warm, soft and a pleasure to look at. The garter-stitch mini waves are completed by bigger ones in the middle of the shawl, created by tuck stitches that look interesting from the front and the reverse side. Add two pretty tassels for extra interest – and there you have your Stocksee Story!
