To us knitters, heaven can be a luxurious cashmere blend, caressing our fingers while we knit. Heaven can be a pattern so simple and intuitive, just using knit and purl stitches, knitting up to a beautiful shawlette with an intriguing geometric pattern. Heaven is when something you knit is so soft you never want to take it off again. Heaven can be that very special color only our favorite dyer can achieve. Heaven can have many dimensions and interesting structures, like space – and very much like this shawlette when left unblocked. Heaven can be big, smooth, shiny and beautiful, like this shawlette after blocking. Heaven is a pattern that uses exactly the amount of yarn you have. Heaven can also be a daydream while we knit, maybe of a trip through space, to galaxies far away, leaving all troubles on earth behind us. So here’s “Heaven and Space”, the perfect shawlette to embody just that.

If you prefer to block your shawl, the pattern will lay flat. You can choose to knit as many repeats as you like, making the pattern adaptable to the amount of yarn you have.

Rosy Green Wool Cheeky Merino Joy

Color Rosy Green Wool: 152 Blauwal

This yarn is pure joy: 100% Merino superwash from Argentina, spun in a traditional mill in the UK, GOTS-certified (i. e. produced animal- and eco-friendly) – and soooo supersoft! I do not know many yarns that feel as good as this next to your skin – so it's ideal for shawls, hats and scarves as well as baby clothing. My patterns Matchmaker (DK-Version) and Naiada, as well as Braidsmaid, Heaven & Space, Buds & Bumbles and Brickless are perfect with this yarn, but also my hat patterns Tensfield, Langfield, Blunk the Hat turn out wonderfully in this yarn.The "Melange" colors of Cheeky Merino Joy by Rosy Green Wool have an interesting, almost rustic look to them – while being just as soft as their solid cousins! This is achieved by dyeing a part of the white merino fiber in a dark color before it is spun in to yarn. The colors that are dyed on the skeins will then have a beautiful heathered effect.The sample "Knitters DNA" from our book "Hitchhiker Collection" was made out of two skeins of this yarn, colorway "Sea Green". The sample "Rose Candy" from our book "Strickmich! Knitting Inventions" was knit out of 1 skein of this yarn in color "Eismeer" and 1 skein in color "Nachthimmel". My patterns Obvious, Shore Hap Joy, Shrug & More, Corners, Edges, Stripes and Liebe Hannah were written specifically for this yarn.

Garter stitch. It‘s simple, it‘s warm and squishy, stretchy and reversible and it makes any variegated, hand-dyed sockyarn really shine. So here‘s Hitchhiker: It is a narrow, slightly asymmetrically shaped triangular shawlette that can be wrapped around the neck several times. The ends are long enough to tie it with a knot. One of the short sides of the triangle features a saw-tooth border that evolves naturally during the knitting and gives the shawl its unusual shape. “Brickless” was designed for the Miss Babs 2012 Knitting Tour, and was exclusive to the members of the Tour for six months. Berlin in Winter is colder than most other big German cities – when travelling there, a big, cozy shawlette like this will come in handy! The beautiful colors are reminiscent of bright city lights in dark winter nights. The shape of the shawlette is an asymmetrical, long triangle, formed by rows that are getting longer and longer as you go. They are worked in different simple, but very effective patterns that make them look a little like a skyline of tall houses. These skyscrapers are not built with bricks, but concrete and steel – hence the name, „Brickless“. And also: No more bricks in the wall that used to divide Berlin.The pattern "Brickless" is part of Martina Behm´s book "The Hitchhiker Collection".
