Knitters’ DNA

Product information "Knitters’ DNA"

Knitters are special people. We love to transform what sheep and creative handdyers offer us into warm, useful and fun items. We gush over beautifully dyed skeins, we stroke them and hold them next to our skin, we admire the depth of color and feel that an evening spent without knitting is somehow not right. We help and respect each other, and we care about our loved ones so much that we will work hours knitting socks and hats for them once winter approaches. Knitters are enthusiastic, caring and wonderful! This asymmetric shawlette with its double helix border is here to celebrate how special knitters are, and how special all of you are to me. You make the world more colorful, more beautiful and so much warmer, and you deserve to be celebrated.

The border evolves during the knitting and is attached on the go, there is no sewing or seaming involved. There are a few wraps and turns, minimal purling and lots of mindless knitting with an unusual result. Make it out of a striking, deep semisolid to show off the 3-dimensional border, or use a low-contrast multicolor to make it extra pretty.

The pattern "Knitters' DNA" is part of Martina Behm´s book "The Hitchhiker Collection". For this pattern you need 2 skeins Cheeky Merino Joy from Rosy Green Wool

Rosy Green Wool Cheeky Merino Joy
Color Rosy Green Wool: 250 Melange Seegrün
This yarn is pure joy: 100% Merino superwash from Argentina, spun in a traditional mill in the UK, GOTS-certified (i. e. produced animal- and eco-friendly) – and soooo supersoft! I do not know many yarns that feel as good as this next to your skin – so it's ideal for shawls, hats and scarves as well as baby clothing. My patterns Matchmaker (DK-Version) and Naiada, as well as Braidsmaid, Heaven & Space, Buds & Bumbles and Brickless are perfect with this yarn, but also my hat patterns Tensfield, Langfield, Blunk the Hat turn out wonderfully in this yarn. The "Melange" colors of Cheeky Merino Joy by Rosy Green Wool have an interesting, almost rustic look to them – while being just as soft as their solid cousins! This is achieved by dyeing a part of the white merino fiber in a dark color before it is spun in to yarn. The colors that are dyed on the skeins will then have a beautiful heathered effect. The sample "Knitters DNA" from our book "Hitchhiker Collection" was made out of two skeins of this yarn, colorway "Sea Green". The sample "Rose Candy" from our book "Strickmich! Knitting Inventions" was knit out of 1 skein of this yarn in color "Eismeer" and 1 skein in color "Nachthimmel".  My patterns  Obvious, Shore Hap Joy, Shrug & More, Corners, Edges, Stripes and  Liebe Hannah were written specifically for this yarn.

Color fyberspates: 628 - Blueberry
A beautiful hand dyed merino yarn with a high twist and fascinating colors: hand dyer Jeni Hewlett likes to dye in layers, so the colors will get an unusual depth. It's beautiful to work with, does not split and wears beautifully as it is really soft around the neck. A great choice for sweaters and accessories alike! The weight and yardage are ideal for many of Martina's shawl patterns. Rüsch is specially designed for this yarn and you only need one skein.

This yarn is like a magic trick! "Crazy Zauberball" by German manufacturer Schoppel consists of 75% wool mixed with 25% Polyamide and has the most stunning color variations. Perfect for interestingly constructed hats! The color changes make the knitting extra fun, and the result looks just cool and special. The yarn is very light and durable and becomes soft after the first wash. One skein (100 g) are sufficient for an adult sized hat (ca. 50-55 g) plus a kid sized hat (ca. 40-45 g). It's also perfect to make a prettily striped Hitchhiker, Lintilla, Puerto Montt or Easy shawlette. Yarns by Schoppel are made with mulesing-free wool from South AmericaPlease note that each Zauberball is an individual and may look different than the ones shown in these pictures. The samples "Easy" and "Ecken + Kanten" from the book "Strickmich! One of my favorite sitcoms is “The Big Bang Theory“. In one episode, nerdy physicist Leonard dates his colleague Leslie Winkle and they have a fierce argument about which version of Quantum Mechanics is correct – String Theory or Loop Quantum Gravity. When Leonard declares that he prefers his space “stringy, not loopy“, that’s a dealbreaker for Leslie (”How will we raise the children?“). This very loopy shawlette is here to celebrate Miss Winkle, women scientists and all women who know what they want and don’t let any man talk them out of it! Miss Winkle is an asymmetric shawlette in garter stitch that looks fabulous in a variegated hand-dyed yarn. You start with one little loop, adding longer and longer rows that form a very long triangle. The loops are created using a simple twist technique that I show in an instructional video and are really fun to make. There are almost no purl stitches, so this is a very relaxing but quick project that is perfect for beginners and young knitters – and a great project on-the-go for knitting experts. You can use any amount of yarn because you just knit this pattern until your yarn is used up. The yarn used for the shawlette in the pictures ("Miss Babs Yummy 2-ply", colorway "Deep Sea Jellyfish") is availble here at Strickmich! Hitchhiker
Formate: PDF Download | Language: Deutsch
Garter stitch. It‘s simple, it‘s warm and squishy, stretchy and reversible and it makes any variegated, hand-dyed sockyarn really shine. So here‘s Hitchhiker: It is a narrow, slightly asymmetrically shaped triangular shawlette that can be wrapped around the neck several times. The ends are long enough to tie it with a knot. One of the short sides of the triangle features a saw-tooth border that evolves naturally during the knitting and gives the shawl its unusual shape. Because the knitting starts at one end, you can stop anytime, bind off and end up with a useful neckerchief, shawlette or shawl. A perfect project to relax in between more complicated ones, also very suitable for beginners and young knitters. The name? Well, if you use a 150 g skein of Wollmeise 100% Merino for this, you can make how many teeth? That‘s right, 42. The answer to the question about the universe and everything, according to Douglas Adams‘ wonderful book „The Hitchhiker‘s Guide to the Galaxy“. So don‘t forget your towel, and happy knitting! The pattern "Hitchhiker" is avaliable in Martina Behm´s books "The Hitchhiker Collection" and "Strickmich! Knitting Inventions"

Lintilla
Formate: PDF Download | Language: Deutsch
Why garter stitch is my favorite? Well, mostly, you don‘t have to purl. That makes it easy and relaxing to knit. It might take a little longer for progress to show because you need to work more rows than, say, in stockinette stitch to see what you have done. But that is made up for by that wonderful stretchy fabric that is such a pleasure to wear and makes fingering weight yarn warm and cozy. Plus: Most hand-dyed yarns look really fab in it. So I just could not resist to design another little garter stitch shawlette: Lintilla. It comes with a special long and narrow triangular, slightly asymmetrical construction and a beautiful scalloped, subtly ruffled edge that is really fun to make. This is my fourth shawlette that is named after Douglas Adams‘ „The Hitchhiker‘s Guide to the Galaxy“ series: Lintilla an intelligent and beautiful woman (she appeared only in the BBC radio play, not in the books), who was accidentally cloned too many times – so her pretty face could be spotted in every part of the galaxy. Who knows, maybe that‘s what‘s going to happen to this shawlette as well? This pattern, as the other triangular shawls I have designed, is very flexible: You can use any amount of yarn and end up with a small neckerchief, a small or bigger shawlette. To achieve the size shown in the pictures, you will need about 525 m (575 yards) of fingering weight yarn. Here is a short video tutorial on how to do the wraps and turns. The pattern "Lintilla" is part of Martina Behm´s book "The Hitchhiker Collection".
