Luxurious and so soft! "Fino" by Manos del Uruguay is a voluminous single-ply consisting of 30% silk and 70% merino wool – really soft and perfect for a pretty shawl like Samadhi, Baltic Summer, Hitchhiker, Heaven & Space or Lintilla. The multicolored versions are perfect for Martina's designs, and one skein of 450 m per 100 g will yield a decently sized shawl.

The yarn is hand dyed by a cooperative in Uruguay that offers employment to rural women in difficult life situations. The merino fiber comes from South America and is mulesing-free.

Please note: Handwash only.

Pattern for the 2nd Strickmich! Club shipment 2014 Sometimes, the world around me seems a little bit too loud, too crowded, too busy. When that happens, I take out my knitting, find a place to sit and feel how the noise slowly disappears while I knit one stitch after another. As I focus on the work of my hands, I notice how my mind regains clarity and strength – a state called “Samadhi” in the ancient Asian language Pali. This little shawlette has received its name because it is such a relaxing knit that it feels almost like meditation to make it. The pale turquoise color with its special hand-dyed glow will take your eyes on a vacation, and the warm merino wool will feel like a soft breeze in your hands. The resulting shawlette has a subtle wavy border and is light and small enough to be worn in warmer weather. Measurements of the shawlette in the pictures: Length 150 cms (60 in), depth 27 cms (11 in) Instructions on how to make the shawl bigger, using the amount of yarn you choose are given in the pattern.The pattern "Samadhi" is part of Martina Behm´s book "The Hitchhiker Collection".

Stocksee Story

When we moved to the countryside a couple of years ago, we couldn’t believe how beautiful it is around here: Woods and lakes and scenery, freedom for your eyes, comfort for the soul. I especially enjoy afternoons at lake Stocksee when I just watch the ducks and grebes and the subtle changes in the water surface. “Stocksee Story” captures this mood: Made out of a great supersoft silk-merino blend by Manos del Uruguay, dyed to perfection in a colorway that resembles a blue water surface with reflections of the shrubs and trees at the shore, it will be warm, soft and a pleasure to look at. The garter-stitch mini waves are completed by bigger ones in the middle of the shawl, created by tuck stitches that look interesting from the front and the reverse side. Add two pretty tassels for extra interest – and there you have your Stocksee Story!

Magrathea is a long and narrow, slightly asymmetrical triangular shawlette that features a squishy garter stitch body and a geometrical lace motif at the edges - just right for spring and early summer! In Douglas Adam‘s book „The Hitchhiker‘s Guide to the Galaxy“, Magrathea is the planet where luxury custom-made planets are built to order. Its planet-building experts are especially famous for designing pretty coastlines – as the lace edging of this little shawlette. It is my third design (after „Hitchhiker“ and „Trillian“) that uses a special asymmetrical triangular construction. Pattern notes: You start at one corner of the triangle, add wider and wider rows and cast off at one of the short sides. The lace edging on one side is worked as you go, the other is formed by the last 30 rows before binding off. 100 g of fingering weight yarn is plenty to make a useful shawlette. Instructions are provided on how to make it larger. Charts only, lace parts are not given as written instructions. Addi-Click Lace Long Set

Can the concept of an interchangeable needle set be improved any further? Yes, it can! I have been using several different needle systems over the years, and all of them had the problem that after a while, the needle tips would become loose, yarn would be caught in the screwing section or the tips would fall off entirely (a catastrophe when you are knitting lace...!). The click system by German manufacturer Addi solves this problem: You insert the end of the cable, press and turn – and the needle tip is secured for good. It won't come off, even after many hours of knitting. The mechanism is not hard to learn (it's shown in this Youtube video (opens in new window, in German – but you will see how it works!). It's a patented, true innovation and I think it's really awesome as it makes knitters' lives easier. What I also like about it: If you need to set stitches aside you can just use a connector to attach the ends of the cable to each other (this would not work with other systems!). If you would like to make the switch to the Addi click system, this luxurious needle set is four you: 8 pairs of Addi Lace tips (sharp, suitable for complex patterns) in 3.5 to 8 mms, 3 cables (lengths 60, 80 and 100 cm) and a connector (which lets you combine the cables to 140, 160 and 180 cm). They come in a beautiful pink-purple satin case, so there won't be any chaos and you will always find the tips you need. On the back of the case there's a zippered pouch for the cables. It's also a great gift for your favorite knitter.
