Shrug & More

Product information "Shrug & More"

Easy to knit, multifunctional and interesting to look at – that’s the kind of knitting project that I am most fond of these days! Shrug & More was designed as a garter stitch shrug, but the arm openings are intentionally big enough to fit over your head – which creates endless possibilities to wear! The short-row shaping of the collar and one two-tone sleeve make it an interesting piece of your wardrobe. The yarn I chose is a certified organic ultrasoft merino which is a true pleasure to have next to your skin.

Rosy Green Wool Cheeky Merino Joy
Color Rosy Green Wool: 057 Wilde Malve
This yarn is pure joy: 100% Merino superwash from Argentina, spun in a traditional mill in the UK, GOTS-certified (i. e. produced animal- and eco-friendly) – and soooo supersoft! I do not know many yarns that feel as good as this next to your skin – so it's ideal for shawls, hats and scarves as well as baby clothing. My patterns Matchmaker (DK-Version) and Naiada, as well as Braidsmaid, Heaven & Space, Buds & Bumbles and Brickless are perfect with this yarn, but also my hat patterns Tensfield, Langfield, Blunk the Hat turn out wonderfully in this yarn. The "Melange" colors of Cheeky Merino Joy by Rosy Green Wool have an interesting, almost rustic look to them – while being just as soft as their solid cousins! This is achieved by dyeing a part of the white merino fiber in a dark color before it is spun in to yarn. The colors that are dyed on the skeins will then have a beautiful heathered effect. The sample "Knitters DNA" from our book "Hitchhiker Collection" was made out of two skeins of this yarn, colorway "Sea Green". The sample "Rose Candy" from our book "Strickmich! Knitting Inventions" was knit out of 1 skein of this yarn in color "Eismeer" and 1 skein in color "Nachthimmel".  My patterns  Obvious, Shore Hap Joy, Shrug & More and Corners, Edges, Stripes were written specifically for this yarn.

Amano Puna
Color Amano: 4008 Bordeaux
Sustainable Softness from Peru Extra warm, extra soft and extra good for our planet – that’s the way we love a beautiful yarn, and the amazing alpaca yarns by Amano are just that! The fiber comes from cooperatives in Peru which employ the latest methods to ensure an animal-friendly environment and minimal impact on the surroundings. The high plains of the Andes are home to three and a half million alpacas. They have been living in this area for more than 5000 years and learned to thrive despite the rough climate and scarce food supply, earning their wool a reputation to be the most sustainable animal fiber there is. Alpaca fiber is significantly warmer than wool from sheep, it is very soft and has an attractive lustre – a dream for any knitter. It is processed by a spinning mill in the south of Peru to become one of the luxurious knitting yarns by Amano: blended with silk, merino or cashmere or pure as Baby or Imperial Alpaca in gorgeous, vibrant colors inspired by the textile traditions of South America.  Puna is made from 100% Baby Alpaca, yardage is about 250 meters / 273 yards / 100 g, so it's perfect for large but light, warm shawls like Naiada (two skeins of this yarn, colorway "Kornblumenblau"). The pattern is available here in our shop or in the book "The Hitchhiker Collection"  Martina has designed her knitting pattern "Loops" especially for this yarn. The sample "Loops" in our book "Strickmich! Knitting Inventions" was made out of two skeins of this yarn: One in Korallrot, the other in Bordeaux.

Poppy Project
Formate: PDF Download | Language: Deutsch
Summer is close – and a typical sight around here are pretty deep red poppy flowers showing their friendly faces. But even in warmer temperatures, a little woolen something to keep your neck warm might be nice: “Poppy Project” is a modular cowl with two additional openings and multiple wearing options – you might even wear it as a little shoulder warmer. Knit entirely in garter stitch without any seams, it’s a perfect project to relax, have a good time and chat – online or offline – with your favorite knitter friends. The sample in the pictures was knit with one skein (150 g) of Alte Künste Big Merino. It doubles as a shrug up to size M. If you wear a larger size, you can wear it as a  versatile cowl or choose to add a second skein of yarn to make it bigger.   "Poppy Project" can be worked out of any fingering weight yarn (400 m / 100 g). You will need 150 g of yarn up to size M and 200-250 g for larger sizes.

Sleeves PDF Download

It is absolutely no secret that I love long, triangular shawlettes, because they are easy to wear and look great. And sometimes I wish I had something to warm my arms on chilly evenings, when I am just wearing a T-Shirt or a tank-top. Something that will stay in place when I move, goes over everything and adds a splash of color. So I made „Sleeves“:  It is a shawlette that you can put your arms in, because the long ends are actually tubes. You will be able to dance in it without fear that it might come off! The knitting is pleasant and easy, mostly knit stitches with a few construction details that will keep you interested.Pattern NotesI recommend a fingering or sport-weight yarn, but the pattern is written such that you can use any other yarn (gauge is not important). You will just have to try it on your arm and decide how long you want your sleeves and neck opening to be. The wider you make your arms, the longer it will be in the back. In an appendix, key stitch numbers for five sizes are provided.  My version (which is a generous size M) used 250g. Plan to use more yarn for larger sizes. If you are using multiple colors, do the color changes at the beginning of the rounds or at the beginning of a right-side-row.

Smooth Sailor
Formate: PDF Download | Language: Deutsch
This is the 2nd pattern from Strickmich! Club 2016 Smooth Sailor is whatever you would like it to be: Put your arms through the holes and wear it as a shrug. Fold it lengthwise and pull one end through one of the holes, and it will turn into a cozy scarf. Stick your head through one of the openings and one arm through the other and it becomes an asymmetric poncho. Fold it in half such that both holes lie on top of each other and pull it over your head as a capelet. The special 3-dimensional construction makes it all possible! Smooth Sailor is the perfect canvas for a beautiful handdyed laceweight, consisting of a plain stockinette body with a little ruffle added at the end. It also is a wonderful project to take on your vacation: Work the cast-on and the setup at home, and have a mindless and lightweight project to knit on in your deckchair. Smooth sailing!  Find the yarn used for this pattern (the beautiful Manos Marina) here in our shop.   Here is a video in which I demonstrate the various ways to wear Smooth Sailor.  Cast-On-Event2-2016 from Martina Behm on Vimeo.
