Square to the power of two! Yes, squaring the square should actually be quite simple, but making a hat out of a square requires a clever pattern. Square² – that’s “Square squared” – does that for you! It starts very relaxed by with knitting in the round, can be adjusted to the wearer’s head size during the knitting and will be extra warm at the ears as the fabric will be doubled there. All of that happens seamlessly and (almost) without purl stitches. The hat comes off the needles completely finished as soon as the knitting is done and ends are woven in. How many depends on your choice of yarn: Pick a pretty bundle of mini skeins (Fino Minis from Manos del Uruguay) or a ball of self-striping yarn. If you wish, you can opt to add a reflecting yarn for safety in the light stripes.

Aren't they cute? These Mini-Sets out of "Fino" by Manos del Uruguay contain 5 skeins of 20 g each in gorgeous colors that go really well together. Work them up as a gradient or use them for stripes combined with an entire 100 g-skein to make a "Leftie". "Fino" is a voluminous, luxurious single-ply with 30% silk and 70% wool (Merino) – great for cowls and shawls that will be worn against the skin, e. g. "Wolkig" or "Heaven & Space". At Manos del Uruguay, local women have been spinning and dyeing the most beautiful yarns for forty years. The project was initiated to give women in rural areas the chance to get jobs in the artisanal field with fair pay and a good working environment. Please note: This yarn is not superwash and prefers to be washed by hand instead of in the woollen cycle in your washing machine.The sample "Lupino" in our book "Strickmich! Knitting Inventions" was made out of one set of these Mini-skeins (color combination: Dorothea).

These needles are great quality "Made in Germany", and they make even the most complicated lace pattern a pleasure to knit. The needle sizes are printed on the cable (metric and US). Addi lace needle tips are made nickel-free.

Cute stitch markers made of recycled acrylic in the shape of little crowns. The recycled acrylic is clear and the markers have a golden crown on one side and a etched yarn ball on the other. Designed and made in Finland. Super-useful when it comes to knitting Magrathea, Naiada, Nuvem, Jasminde, Match & Move or Viajante! S quaring the circle with this extra-warm and extra pretty hat: Circle & Square! You start with an oval, working in the round and end with a square, all completely seamless and without any purl stitches. The unusual construction looks especially attractive in a self-striping or gradient yarn. The fabric is doubled in the spots that count (ears!), so it’s perfect for icy-cold winter days. Work it in a fingering-weight yarn or choose the yarn you like – the size is adaptable to the wearer’s head circumference. I used one skein of the super soft "Lazy Lion" by Kremke Soul Wool for this hat. The pattern is adaptable to other yarn weights and sizes, though.

Fascinating! Quadra Cowl will change its appearance just as you wish: It's especially fun when made out of a self-striping yarn or a mini-skeins. The construction comes together automatically during the knitting, no sewing or seaming required. All important steps are explained in the accompanying videos. As the cowl is double-layered and extra warm, it will be a useful addition to your winter wardrobe! The cowls in the pictures are made out of two sets of Zauberperlen by Schoppel (200 g in total, colorways Samarkand and Arabesk) or four balls of Edition 3 by Schoppel (colorway Englischer Garten). You can choose other yarns if you wish (e.g. Lazy Lion or Crazy Zauberball), just make sure it is not too bulky. Please note that you will need three circular needles of the same size to make this (only for one round), length 80 cm (32 in) or more, preferably in different colors, plus four stitch markers.
