Product information "Viajante"

– no purling required! –
I love long, triangular shawls: They are just the thing to keep your neck and shoulders warm during winter. But then I thought: How about making one that, instead of just being a flat piece of fabric, is three-dimensional, knit in the round and doubles as a big loop, hood and very big cowl? Well, here it is: Viajante (Portuguese for ”traveller“) takes your knitting to another dimension! You can use an entire skein of Wollmeise Lace that will result in a 220 x 60 cm shawl. You can use less yarn if you want it to be smaller, the pattern is adaptable.

Viajante is basically a very long and narrow triangular tube. Used flat, you can wrap it around your neck several times or put it on your shoulders as you would with a shawl. Open it up at the lace border and pull it over your head, and it will keep your entire upper body warm. If you wish, you can use it to add a dramatic asymmetrical silhouette to your wardrobe. Best thing: If you forgot your hat, you can just pull the narrow garter stitch part over your head and hide your ears from the cold. It is so versatile you will not want to leave the house without it!
Viajante has a clean, classic look in stockinette stitch that is particularly pretty in a slightly variegated, very light yarn. The lace mesh border is really easy to knit (even for beginners) but can be replaced by a more complicated lace pattern or a simple ruffle if you prefer. It is a long, relaxing knit without any purl stitches that yields a spectacular result.

Here’s another video that shows you how to do the increases.

Viajante fits all sizes as the narrow part is supposed to be draped around the neck such that any shoulder width can be accomodated. The mesh border has a circumference of roughly 300 cm. If you wish to make a bigger neck opening (which reduces the total wingspan of the shawl), you will find instructions in the pattern.

The pattern "Viajante" is part of Martina Behms book "Strickmich! Knitting Inventions".

Panoramic Cowl

So cozy, so comfy, so colorful: Broaden your horizons with Panoramic Cowl! It’s a great project to round off our Strickmich! Club motto “Naturally Nature” of 2020, as the colorway (“Landscape”) and the construction celebrate the beauty of what is around us. “Panoramic Cowl” is just the thing to add a little color and warmth to your winter wardrobe! The construction is unusual but very simple and a pleasure to knit. The yarn is creatively dyed and feels amazing when wearing it. Your neck and chest will be warm and protected from chilly winds outside, and nothing will come off or be exposed. Ideal for wearing when riding your bike, skiing, hiking or just taking a walk with your favorite four- or two-legged friends to enjoy the panoramic views in your neighborhood.  This pattern was exclusive to members of Strickmich! Club during the first six months after its publication in 2020. The colorway "Landscape" was dyed exclusively for us by Tieke Garne.

Sleeves PDF Download

It is absolutely no secret that I love long, triangular shawlettes, because they are easy to wear and look great. And sometimes I wish I had something to warm my arms on chilly evenings, when I am just wearing a T-Shirt or a tank-top. Something that will stay in place when I move, goes over everything and adds a splash of color. So I made „Sleeves“:  It is a shawlette that you can put your arms in, because the long ends are actually tubes. You will be able to dance in it without fear that it might come off! The knitting is pleasant and easy, mostly knit stitches with a few construction details that will keep you interested.Pattern NotesI recommend a fingering or sport-weight yarn, but the pattern is written such that you can use any other yarn (gauge is not important). You will just have to try it on your arm and decide how long you want your sleeves and neck opening to be. The wider you make your arms, the longer it will be in the back. In an appendix, key stitch numbers for five sizes are provided.  My version (which is a generous size M) used 250g. Plan to use more yarn for larger sizes. If you are using multiple colors, do the color changes at the beginning of the rounds or at the beginning of a right-side-row.

Smooth Sailor
Formate: PDF Download | Language: Deutsch
This is the 2nd pattern from Strickmich! Club 2016 Smooth Sailor is whatever you would like it to be: Put your arms through the holes and wear it as a shrug. Fold it lengthwise and pull one end through one of the holes, and it will turn into a cozy scarf. Stick your head through one of the openings and one arm through the other and it becomes an asymmetric poncho. Fold it in half such that both holes lie on top of each other and pull it over your head as a capelet. The special 3-dimensional construction makes it all possible! Smooth Sailor is the perfect canvas for a beautiful hand-dyed laceweight, consisting of a plain stockinette body with a little ruffle added at the end. It also is a wonderful project to take on your vacation: Work the cast-on and the setup at home, and have a mindless and lightweight project to knit on in your deckchair. Smooth sailing!  Find the beautiful "Marina" by Manos del Uruguay here in our shop.  Here is a video in which I demonstrate the various ways to wear Smooth Sailor.  Cast-On-Event2-2016 from Martina Behm on Vimeo.
