Magrathea PDF Download

Product information "Magrathea PDF Download"

Magrathea is a long and narrow, slightly asymmetrical triangular shawlette that features a squishy garter stitch body and a geometrical lace motif at the edges - just right for spring and early summer!
In Douglas Adam‘s book „The Hitchhiker‘s Guide to the Galaxy“, Magrathea is the planet where luxury custom-made planets are built to order. Its planet-building experts are especially famous for designing pretty coastlines – as the lace edging of this little shawlette. It is my third design (after „Hitchhiker“ and „Trillian“) that uses a special asymmetrical triangular construction.
Pattern notes: You start at one corner of the triangle, add wider and wider rows and cast off at one of the short sides. The lace edging on one side is worked as you go, the other is formed by the last 30 rows before binding off. 100 g of fingering weight yarn is plenty to make a useful shawlette. Instructions are provided on how to make it larger.
Charts only, lace parts are not given as written instructions.

If you are interested in how I calculated the stitch count before starting the edge, please have a look here.

The pattern "Magrathea" is part of Martina Behm´s book "The Hitchhiker Collection".

Matching Yarn

Fyberspates Vivacious 4-Ply
Color fyberspates: 618 - Plum Imps
A beautiful hand dyed merino yarn with a high twist and fascinating colors: hand dyer Jeni Hewlett likes to dye in layers, so the colors will get an unusual depth. It's beautiful to work with, does not split and wears beautifully as it is really soft around the neck. A great choice for sweaters and accessories alike! The weight and yardage are ideal for many of Martina's shawl patterns. Rüsch is specially designed for this yarn and you only need one skein.

The multicolored versions are perfect for Martina's designs, and one skein of 450 m per 100 g will yield a decently sized shawl. The yarn is hand dyed by a cooperative in Uruguay that offers employment to rural women in difficult life situations. The merino fiber comes from South America and is mulesing-free.  Please note: Handwash only.  The sample "Samadhi" from our book "Hitchhiker Collection" was made out of one skein of this yarn, colorway "Watered Silk".The sample "Wolkig" from our book "Strickmich! Jasminde

This pattern was part of Strickmich! Club 2014. If you are a beginning lace knitter, this is for you!  When I first saw a skein of yarn in this beautiful berry-pinkish color, I immediately felt that it needed to be something very, very pretty. Definitely lace, but not too frilly. Geometric and delicate, but simple enough to make it an enjoyable knitting experience. So here is “Jasminde”, a triangular, asymmetric shawl that you will be able to wrap yourself into and instantly feel beautiful! With only 150 grams of “Rohrspatz & Wollmeise Pure“, you will knit a generously sized shawl that is 250 cm (100 inches) long and will not only be pretty to look at, but also keep you warm when autumn arrives. The pattern is flexible regarding the amount of yarn you have and the size you want your shawl to be: Just leave about 10% of your total amount of yarn for the edging, and you will be fine. The English version of the printed pattern does NOT contain a written-out version, CHARTS ONLY.The pattern "Jasminde" is part of Martina Behm´s book "The Hitchhiker Collection".

Naiada
Formate: PDF Download | Language: Deutsch
Simple, elegant lace in a surprising, long, slightly asymmetrical triangular shape: That’s Naiada! Knit with a warm DK weight yarn in a beautiful color it will look great under your winter coat or wrapped around your shoulders for extra warmth over a shirt or sweater. Made of a bright blue you will be wearing your very private ocean!  You start at one corner of the triangle, adding wider and wider rows, thereby forming a long, slightly asymmetric triangle. The pattern will work at any gauge with any amount of yarn.  The lace pattern is very straightforward and easy to remember. You can work it using the (very simple) written instructions or the charts, whatever you prefer.  It’s really smooth sailing on the lace ocean which is also doable for beginning lace knitters. The beautiful yarn Amano Puna which I used for the sample is available in our shop. The pattern "Naiada" is part of Martina Behm´s book "The Hitchhiker Collection".

Halley
Formate: PDF Download | Language: Deutsch
Like a shower of comets and stars, criss-crossing through the sky – that’s what Alexandra of Zauberwiese thought of when she created this beautiful colorway for Strickmich! Club. So I picked up this theme for the design of a lacy shawl: The garter stitch gives way to an ever-growing assembly of geometric comet traces. The shawl is named “Halley” after Halley’s Comet, which is visible from Earth every 74 to 79 years, even without a telescope. The subtle color speckles on a stunning blue background make the shawl even more interesting to knit and wear – reminding you of the wonders of the universe while it warms your shoulders. You can use a yarn with 400-500 m per 100 g for this, like e. g. Amano Ayni or Manos del Uruguay AlegriaThe pattern "Halley" is part of Martina Behm´s book "The Hitchhiker Collection"
