The Hitchhiker is taking a few extra turns with this little shawl: Instead of the simple shark-tooth border you know from the original, “Double Hitch” features a double zig-zag border with extra little squares situated between the shark teeth! This looks especially nice in a wildly colorful handdyed yarn, as the colors stack up very prettily within the tiny squares. “Double Hitch” is seamless, of course, the squares are added modularly between the teeth and everything just comes together nicely during the knitting. Use up all the yarn you have and enjoy this pretty cousin of your favorite shawl!

This yarn is so soft and wears so well, as it is cleverly composed from 15% cashmere, 75% merino fiber and 10% nylon for stability. It has the perfect yardage for small shawls and can – theoretically – also be used for socks. But who would want to hide these beautiful colors in their shoes? As the dyer has put so much creative energy in them, we can just relax and knit this yarn up in a classic small garter stitch shawl. Enjoy!

Garter stitch. It‘s simple, it‘s warm and squishy, stretchy and reversible and it makes any variegated, hand-dyed sockyarn really shine. So here‘s Hitchhiker: It is a narrow, slightly asymmetrically shaped triangular shawlette that can be wrapped around the neck several times. The ends are long enough to tie it with a knot. Hitch on the Move

Zig-zags just look cool, are fun to knit and go with everything, if you ask me! This shawl unites the sharktooth design of my most popular pattern “Hitchhiker” with the construction of “Match & Move”: two yarns interlock along the middle axis in a zig-zag-pattern. Of course, everything is worked seamlessly in one piece, and in the end, there are only very few ends to weave in. For “Hitch on the Move” we chose two lovely plant-based yarns, one with color changes and one without. If you prefer, you can use a set of mini-skeins for one side and a solid color for the other – the possibilities are endless! Please keep in mind if you change yarns with every stripe, there will be more ends to weave in. The pattern includes instructions on how to make the shawl bigger using more yarn.Below you can see color suggestions from Kremke Soul Wool "Morning Salutation" and Schoppel "Zauberball Crazy Cotton". Hey, is that a Hitchhiker? No wait, something is different... There are teeth all around your neck! And many more than 42! And it’s symmetric! How did you do that? Simple: This is not a Hitchhiker, but a Hitchhiker from a parallel universe – it’s a Hitchhiker Beyond! The toothy edge is placed on the long side of the skinny triangle (on the original Hitchhiker, it’s on one of the short sides). The triangle is almost perfectly symmetric, which I am sure some of you will find very pleasing. But apart from that, the Hitchhiker Beyond shares the desirable qualities of its cousin: Garter stitch on the bias lets a pretty handdyed multicolor shine, it is squishy and warm, and the resulting shape is easy to wear. Only one skein of colorful fingering weight yarn will make a shawlette long enough to wrap around your neck several times. And just as the Hitchhiker, the Hitchhiker Beyond is an easy knit that is suitable for beginning knitters – and for those of you who do not like casting on or casting off lots of stitches.
