„Trillian“ is the leading female character in Douglas Adams‘ great book „The Hitchhiker‘s Guide to the Galaxy“. She‘s a mathematician and astrophysicist, and if she took up knitting, no doubt she would enjoy the unusual construction of this shawlette: You start knitting at one corner, adding wider and wider rows, thereby forming a long, narrow, slightly asymmetrical triangle. Just perfect for wrapping around your neck several times or hug your shoulders with a little warmth. Due to the shallow-but-long shape, you will get something useful to wear, no matter how much yarn you have. The garter-stitch center is perfect for showcasing a beautiful hand-dyed yarn, because it makes the colors flow into each other naturally. The fishnet-lace border on both short sides of the triangle adds just a bit of femininity without being frilly. Manageable even for beginning knitters.

This is probably the softest sock yarn in the whole wild world – and it's made out of mulesing-free Merino fiber from South Africa. Hence the name! Besides the softness, the best thing about this yarn is that it is color-changing: As you knit, exciting stripes in a number of color combinations will emerge. It's perfect for an interestingly constructed shawl like Easy, Puerto Montt or Match & Move. "Lazy Lion" is superwash and consists of 25% Nylon, so it will be durable enough for socks and other hard-wearing garments – all of this while being incredibly soft! The sample "Trillian" from our book "Hitchhiker Collection" was made out of one skein of this yarn, colorway "Brittas Favorite".The sample "Puerto Montt" on the cover of "Strickmich! Knitting Innovations" was knit out of 2 skeins of this yarn, colorway "Flower Bed". The knitted cover of Strickplaner 2020 was made out of this yarn in the colorway "Bunch of Roses".

Circular Knitting Needle Addi Lace

These needles are great quality "Made in Germany", and they make even the most complicated lace pattern a pleasure to knit. The needle sizes are printed on the cable (metric and US). Magrathea is a long and narrow, slightly asymmetrical triangular shawlette that features a squishy garter stitch body and a geometrical lace motif at the edges - just right for spring and early summer! In Douglas Adam‘s book „The Hitchhiker‘s Guide to the Galaxy“, Magrathea is the planet where luxury custom-made planets are built to order. Its planet-building experts are especially famous for designing pretty coastlines – as the lace edging of this little shawlette. It is my third design (after „Hitchhiker“ and „Trillian“) that uses a special asymmetrical triangular construction. Pattern notes: You start at one corner of the triangle, add wider and wider rows and cast off at one of the short sides. The lace edging on one side is worked as you go, the other is formed by the last 30 rows before binding off. 100 g of fingering weight yarn is plenty to make a useful shawlette. Instructions are provided on how to make it larger. Charts only, lace parts are not given as written instructions. Garter stitch. It‘s simple, it‘s warm and squishy, stretchy and reversible and it makes any variegated, hand-dyed sockyarn really shine. So here‘s Hitchhiker: It is a narrow, slightly asymmetrically shaped triangular shawlette that can be wrapped around the neck several times. The ends are long enough to tie it with a knot. One of the short sides of the triangle features a saw-tooth border that evolves naturally during the knitting and gives the shawl its unusual shape. Because the knitting starts at one end, you can stop anytime, bind off and end up with a useful neckerchief, shawlette or shawl. A perfect project to relax in between more complicated ones, also very suitable for beginners and young knitters. The name? Well, if you use a 150 g skein of Wollmeise 100% Merino for this, you can make how many teeth? That‘s right, 42. The answer to the question about the universe and everything, according to Douglas Adams‘ wonderful book „The Hitchhiker‘s Guide to the Galaxy“.
