Graffiti Park

Product information "Graffiti Park"
Graffiti Park is a design inspired by the “Schanzenviertel” in Hamburg, Germany, a neighborhood where I used to live for a couple of years. It’s colorful, a bit wild, has lots of bars and little places to eat and features lots of graffiti everywhere, especially around the little park behind “Rote Flora”, an old theater that has become a community project. Graffiti Park is a shawl with a simple, but fun lace pattern that evolves during the knitting and looks fabulous in a fun multicolor like Yowza by Miss Babs. Start at one corner and knit up all your yarn!

For this shawl, we recommend
1 Skein "Yowza" by Miss Babs (one skein weighs 227 g, meterage is 226 m / 100 g, which gives you 513 m per skein)
or alternatively
• 3  skeins "Alegria Grande" by Manos del Uruguay (one skein weighs 100 g,  meterage is 180 m / 100 g, so 3 skeins will give you 540 m )

Gauge (stitches per 10 cm): 16
Knitting experience: relaxed
Needle Size: 4,0 mm / US 6

Brickless

“Brickless” was designed for the Miss Babs 2012 Knitting Tour, and was exclusive to the members of the Tour for six months. Berlin in Winter is colder than most other big German cities – when travelling there, a big, cozy shawlette like this will come in handy! The beautiful colors are reminiscent of bright city lights in dark winter nights. The shape of the shawlette is an asymmetrical, long triangle, formed by rows that are getting longer and longer as you go. They are worked in different simple, but very effective patterns that make them look a little like a skyline of tall houses. These skyscrapers are not built with bricks, but concrete and steel – hence the name, „Brickless“. And also: No more bricks in the wall that used to divide Berlin. The pattern "Brickless" is part of Martina Behm´s book "The Hitchhiker Collection".

Match & Move

I just love the “We’re Different”-Grab Bags from Rohrspatz & Wollmeise: Depending on which kind you choose, you will get a combination of a multicolor and a matching semisolid, hand-picked by the dyemaster herself, who has an unmatched sense of color. What shall I say? I was really surprised when I saw that she teamed up a softly variegated brown-grey with a bold and warm red. I just had to give it a try and get my knitting needles moving! So here’s “Match & Move”, a shawl designed to show off the perfect Wollmeise color combination and use up (almost!) an entire grab bag of yarn. My shawl weighs 286 grams. The unusual construction results in kinked stripes that look really interesting when you wear it. The knitting is plain garter stitch and very relaxing, and the shawl is so big and comfy, it is just a dream to wear. Definitely my favorite shawl so far – and I am determined to order another grab bag, be surprised and knit myself one more. Size of the shawl in the pictures: 200 x 50 cm (80 x 20 inches) 286 g of yarn (140 g of color A and 146 g of color B) Wollmeise Colors: Resi and Zimtapfel (both WD)The pattern "Match & Move" is part of Martina Behm´s book "Strickmich! Knitting Inventions".

Lightning

This is the 4th pattern of Strickmich! Club 2017. Colorful, eccentric, unusually creative and an absolute eyecatcher: That’s the colorway Miss Babs dyed for our fourth Strickmich! Club shipment of 2017. Is it a wonder I had to think of David Bowie when I saw it? For him, his music and his stage outfits were both part of his art, the show and the looks were just as important to him as the sounds. And he was a giant in both music and show: Songs like “Heroes”, “Absolute Beginners” or “Let’s Dance” will be forever in our ears. In the early 70s, he invented a stage persona called “Ziggy Stardust”, which he impersonated with bright red-orangey hair and a lightning bolt painted on his face – so I felt inspired by the orange speckles of the yarn to create a shawl with a lightning bolt motif. It is mostly knit in relaxing garter stitch, only the net lace borders and the lightning bolt itself are purled from the wrong side. The size of the shawl can be adapted to the amount of yarn you are using. Happy knitting!
