A little colorful happiness is just what we need right now – and a knitting pattern that is relaxed, but will keep you on your toes. Perfect for blending out whatever worries you may have at the moment! You will start with a crocheted provisional cast-on (I have a video for that) and zig-zag your way along until you will join the cast-on stitches and the stitches from the last row with a 3-needle bind-off (there is a video for that, too). Don’t worry if you have never done it before, it’s easy! The cowl can be worked longer or shorter, wider or narrower, just as you please – so you can be part of the happy crowd wearing it!

This is probably the softest sock yarn in the whole wild world – and it's made out of mulesing-free Merino fiber from South Africa. Hence the name! Besides the softness, the best thing about this yarn is that it is color-changing: As you knit, exciting stripes in a number of color combinations will emerge. It's perfect for an interestingly constructed shawl like Easy, Puerto Montt or Match & Move. "Lazy Lion" is superwash and consists of 25% Nylon, so it will be durable enough for socks and other hard-wearing garments – all of this while being incredibly soft! The sample "Trillian" from our book "Hitchhiker Collection" was made out of one skein of this yarn, colorway "Brittas Favorite".The sample "Puerto Montt" on the cover of "Strickmich! Something soft and sugary will surely sweeten up the cold season for you: “Toranja” is Portuguese for grapefruit, and that was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this yarn. And I love pink grapefruits! I think they are not only the prettiest of fruits, but they also make a yummy drink if you mix them with (alcohol-free) beer or aloe vera juice (add vodka if you fancy). And they are a good source for vitamin C, which never hurts – especially during winter! Toranja starts with a provisional cast-on, is knit on the bias and has those cute little stockinette squares that make the sweet colors pool just a little bit. Interesting to knit, but not really complicated – and it is guaranteed to make your friends wonder how on earth you did it! 120 grams of colorful yarn make a generously sized cowl. If you have more yarn, you can make a wider loop, or cast on more stitches to make it longer.

Want matching handwarmers to go with your Hitchhiker shawlette? This is the pattern for you! Just 40-50 g of handpainted variegated fingering weight yarn will add a funky little detail to your autumn wardrobe. Garter stitch lets the color changes flow into each other, and the biased construction and spiky borders are charming without being too frilly. Using the same instructions and another 60 g of yarn you can make a matching cowl that is just right for those chilly days before winter when a scarf would still be too warm. The pattern includes instructions for both the handwarmers and the cowl (they are essentially the same, but for the cowl you knit more repeats). You start with a provisional cast-on. The spiky borders evolve as you go, and in the end you graft the stitches of the last row to the live stitches of the provisional cast-on. Don‘t worry if you have never done this before: I provide instructional videos for the provisional cast-on, the technique needed to make the border and the garter-stitch grafting.
