Zig-Zags have been a vital part of
my journey as a knitwear designer: the
pattern that started it all – the Hitchhiker – has a shark tooth edging, “Baltic Summer” is zig-Zagged through and
through, “Match & Move” is one huge
Zag, and “Rockin’ Rows” also features
lots of ziggy-Zaggy. Now comes the
time for a rectangular stole with lots of
zig-zags, and just because it’s so much
fun and looks awesome: on the bias. The
yarn is a super-soft, squishy organic
yarn named “Lovely Merino Treat” that
makes the shawl extra voluminous and
warm. Use it for warmth on your shoulders on cool summer evenings and as an
extra warm scarf underneath your coat in
winter. If you like, you can use up all 400
grams of yarn by working the red contrast
stripe more often. The pattern includes
instructions on how to make the shawl
wider and longer (for which you will need
more yarn).
You will need 20 stitchmarkers to make this: 10 in red and 10 in blue. If you want to make it wider, you will need even more!

The yarn we have been waiting for! "Lovely Merino Treat" is the latest addition to the Rosy Green Wool range, and with 210 m / 230 yards per 100 g skein it has the perfect weight for sweaters and warm shawls, right in between the beloved "Cheeky Merino Joy" and "Big Merino Hug" yarns. Of course, it's just as soft and comes in the same beautiful colors as the other Rosy yarns. Spun out of extremely soft, mulesing-free merino fiber, it's a pleasure to knit with and to wear. And to wash, as it's a superwash yarn and can be washed in the machine. As always with Rosy Green Wool, their yarns fulfil the very demanding criteria of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS): Every step of the production must be animal-friendly and not harm the environment. Also, fair wages and working conditions for everyone involved are required. Treat yourself to this lovely yarn!

Summers of my childhood were spent camping on the island Fehmarn (Baltic Sea), where my father had grown up and my mom had strong family ties. During the six weeks of summer vacation, we had a few lazy sunny days at the beach, where we snacked on rolls with cheese and wurst prepared in the morning that had that certain beachy taste and crunched from the grains of sand they had gathered. Most of the time it rained hard, and we would sit in our caravan playing cards, snuggled up in the few summer clothes we had packed while being too optimistic about the weather. On those days, this shawlette would have been perfect: The colors of the Baltic Sea and the rain, and a pattern of small summery waves, adding just a little warmth on not-so-hot summer days.The shawlette is knit on the bias, giving the classic chevron pattern an unusual twist. Each side of the triangle shows a differently shaped wave – just like the Baltic Sea in wild weather.

I just love the “We’re Different”-Grab Bags from Rohrspatz & Wollmeise: Depending on which kind you choose, you will get a combination of a multicolor and a matching semisolid, hand-picked by the dyemaster herself, who has an unmatched sense of color. What shall I say? I was really surprised when I saw that she teamed up a softly variegated brown-grey with a bold and warm red. I just had to give it a try and get my knitting needles moving! So here’s “Match & Move”, a shawl designed to show off the perfect Wollmeise color combination and use up (almost!) an entire grab bag of yarn. My shawl weighs 286 grams. The unusual construction results in kinked stripes that look really interesting when you wear it. The knitting is plain garter stitch and very relaxing, and the shawl is so big and comfy, it is just a dream to wear. Definitely my favorite shawl so far – and I am determined to order another grab bag, be surprised and knit myself one more.
